“Having my daughter almost five years ago, it felt at times like a really isolating experience and also felt like I was figuring it out on my own in a lot of ways,” Morgan shares. “The pregnancy workouts, postpartum, getting my body back in shape while also breastfeeding, not having a nursery room at the training facility and just figuring everything out like I was the first athlete to do this when I in no way was.”
“So I think through my foundation, drawing attention and appreciation for new moms, especially moms in sport, was really important to me,” she shares.
“It’s a really, really difficult job just being in the sports world, feeling like making the decision to be a mom while also being an athlete or coach or somehow involved in the sporting world, almost the two don’t mesh, and so talking about it more is the first step to creating a situation where athletes and coaches and sports women feel accepted with kids or not.”
As she thought about what to add to her registry, Morgan was able to pull from her first pregnancy to determine things she absolutely couldn’t live without — and things she could skip this time around.
“We wanted to do a really private, intimate gender reveal with just my husband and my daughter and myself,” Morgan shares. “And so we actually just had our nanny blow up balloons, black balloons with white paint in it, and then one of the balloons had either pink or blue paint.”
Of course, the balloon with the colored paint ended up being the last one to drop. When it broke into blue splatter on the ground, Morgan learned she is expecting a boy.
The former USWNT star says her daughter is particularly excited to become an older sibling.
