Marcia Gay Harden’s Oscar win was the major surprise of the 2001 Academy Awards.
Many outlets reported that the actress implied in an interview withVulturethatJudi Dench, who was also nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category for the award that year, “wasn’t so happy” with Harden’s win forPollock.
Others nominated within that category alongside Harden wereKate HudsonforAlmost Famous,Frances McDormandforAlmost Famous,Julie WaltersforBilly Elliotand Dench forChocolat.

“And I’m friends with Frances McDormand. There you go,” Harden said. “Frances doesn’t give a s—.”
TheMystic Riveractress also ruled out Walters in the interview.
In an Instagram post days later, Harden said the comment was “misrepresented.”
“In a recent interview, one of my answers that related to Dame Judi Dench was misrepresented. I have never met Ms. Dench — though if I had, I am certain I would have found her to be as generous and supportive as she is respected. I am deeply sorry for anything that would have led anyone to think otherwise,” Harden’s post read.
A rep for Dench did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
