Even though Games of Thrones will close after its eighth season next year , HBO is currently developing a whole mess of novel shows set in Westeros . In a newLivejournal berth , though , George R.R. Martin sheds new twinkle on the five fender script in the work and explains why he does n’t like calling the project “ spinoffs . ”
For those who were holding out promise for a new serial publication of adventures have the the like of Dunk & Egg or Robert ’s Rebellion ofHot Pie ’s Great Westeros Bake - Off , I have unsatisfying news show for you . None of those taradiddle are apparently coming to HBO anytime soon for a couple of reasons . For one matter , Martin does n’t need to be outpace by a television show again and while he ’d love to see Dunk & Egg on the diminished blind at some point , he feels as if he ’s still set out a lot get out in him to get on the Sir Frederick Handley Page about them first .
“ We all know how dumb I am , and how tight a television show can move . I do n’t want to reiterate what happened with Game of Thrones itself , where the show gets ahead of the books , ” Martin said . “ When the day comes that I ’ve polish off telling all my tales of Dunk & Egg , then we ’ll do a tv show about them … but that sidereal day is still a farseeing ways off . ”
Martin also add that while he knows that fans are interested in seeing Robert ’s Rebellion , he ’s confident that by the clock time he complete A Song of Ice and Fire with the Winds of Winter , we ’ll roll in the hay everything we could peradventure want to .
With regard to the five pilot scripts HBO ’s working on , Martin was careful to point out that five scripts do n’t necessarily mean we should gestate to see five new shows in the future , but rather that these are simply ideas in growth . Martin summate that he prefers to think of all of the project as prequels and “ heir show ” rather than spinoffs , a condition he feel is n’t quite right .
“ What we ’re talking about are new story set in the ‘ secondary universe ’ ( to take over Tolkien ’s condition ) of Westeros and the world beyond , the domain I created for A Song of Ice and Fire , ” Martin wrote . “ It is a worldly concern , and a pretty big one , and if there were eight million floor in the defenseless city back in the ‘ 50s , just reckon how many more there are in an intact world , and one with thou of year of recorded history . ”
