Less than two weeks after season 3 premiered inOctober 2021, HBO announced that the Emmy Award-winning drama was confirmed for a fourth installment — exciting news for fans, considering thetwo-year waitbetween the show’s second and third seasons prior.
The debut ofSuccessionseason 4 is slated to air just days after the cast hit the red carpet at the show’sNew York City premiereon March 20. Of course, the Roys were all in attendance — of which some actors teased what fans can look forward to with Waystar RoyCO’s mogul and his power-hungry family.
“They have a trail separation, Tom and Shiv, they’re in a bit of a bad spot,” the actor said, “They haven’t really talked about it.” Macfadyen added, “He’s also slightly shaken with Logan as well. Logan blows hot and cold, and he’s (Tom) not sure that he’s put all his eggs in the right basket.”
In addition to serving as creator and showrunner, Armstrong executive produced season 4 alongside Adam McKay, Frank Rich, Kevin Messick, Jane Tranter, Mark Mylod, Tony Roche, Scott Ferguson, Jon Brown, Lucy Prebble, Will Tracy, and Will Ferrell.

Along with the announcement thatSuccessionseason 4 is underway, HBO released an outline that details how the new season will follow the events ofDecember’s shocking finale.
The season four logline reads: “The sale of media conglomerate Waystar Royco to tech visionary Lukas Matsson moves ever closer. The prospect of this seismic sale provokes existential angst and familial division among the Roys as they anticipate what their lives will look like once the deal is completed. A power struggle ensues as the family weighs up a future where their cultural and political weight is severely curtailed.”

In January 2023, the network releasedanother, slightly longer teaser trailer. It revealed that Tom and Shiv’s marriage might be collateral damage in the fight for company power. Meanwhile, Connor Roy and Willa Ferreya decide to tie the knot.
On March 2, 2023, HBO sharedanother trailer for the show’s fourth season. In the clip, plenty of drama unfolds, including Kendall telling his siblings: “We were cut out behind our backs, but there’s a shape for things for us” and suggests bringing in a handful of frenemies to help, calling them “death-wrestling ogres.”
Later, Logan enlists Roman to ignite the company’s deal with Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgård) then tells Shiv, Kendall and Connor: “I love you, but you are not serious people.”
The trailer ends with Logan screaming to a packed room of Waystar Royco employees. “I wanna kill the opposition. Cut their throats! We are pirates!”

In February 2023, showrunner Jesse Armstrong told theNew YorkerthatSuccessionwill end with season 4.
“There’s a promise in the title ofSuccession. I’ve never thought this could go on forever,” he said. “I got together with a few of my fellow writers before we started the writing of season four, and I sort of said, ‘Look, I think this maybe should be it. But what do you think?'”
Armstrong continued: “And we played out various scenarios: We could do a couple of short seasons or two more seasons. Or we could do something a bit more muscular and complete, and go out sort of strong. And that was definitely always my preference.”
