Grouponis a first-rate pop deals site for a reason : It offer amazing deal . So why do I always end up palpate guilty ? Because it keeps offering me deals for places I already frequent .
The first clock time it happened was a span of calendar week ago . ( I ’ve only been checking Groupon for a few weeks . ) There was a typical restaurant code , put up a 50 % deduction : $ 24 Charles Frederick Worth of intellectual nourishment for $ 12 . I bought two , because this particular topographic point — Muddy ’s Coffee Housein Mississippi , Portland — has a couple of breakfast items that I think are with child . I had the Groupon paper in my pocket . You just print them out from the web site , so it was a folded up sheet of printer theme . I was already sort of humiliated to use it , so I kept it fold up .
The woman who brought back the receipt ask us , “ So have you hombre ever been here before ? I ’m trying to figure out who is using these Groupons . ” I straight off say , “ Yeah , we ’ve been here a span of times . ” Her face fall . Although she was polite , I could evidence she was disappointed . I mat up like a dork .
I ’ve got that other Groupon for Muddy ’s , but I have n’t felt comfortable using it .
Then today ’s plenty terminate up being the same 50 % discount forBreakside Brewery , a place we credibly go to eat at least once a week .
I ’m torn . On one manus , we ’re regulars . Why should n’t we get a discount when the opportunity arises ? On the other , this is a place where the servers and barkeep always greet us personally when we occur back . We sit at the bar and talk about do work in the serve manufacture and about the different beer they have on tap . We ’re not all friends , but we ’re friendly .
So now it feel like I ’m go to short-change myself $ 30 ( if I bribe two ) because I do n’t want these people with whom I do business to feel slightly . Which is fair , I imagine ; you ’ve get to confirm local businesses if you want them to make it .
But the Scots skinflint in me is going to have a grueling time fit to Breakside next time without thinking , Man , I could have had like three free beers if I just were n’t such a wuss .
