Sabina Graves , io9 : Was Disney one of your first fandoms ? If so , which movie or moving picture really breathe in you spring up up , and how did that inform your way of life as an artist ?
Ashley Taylor : Disney was absolutely my first fandom ! I was mesmerized by Sleeping Beauty when I was a kid . I reckon Sleeping Beauty is the most beautiful and artistically decided Disney revivify pic ever created ! Eyvind Earle ’s colouring material dodge , compositions , and detail made every frame a masterpiece . you may pause that movie at any moment and wonder at how strikingly beautiful it is . Eyvind Earle created a humankind for all of us to turn tail to . Sleeping Beauty will always have my heart and it will always root on my use of color possibility to create emotion in my work . I also loved films like Cinderella , Peter Pan , and Alice in Wonderland ! The consumption of colour and designing is so timeless and beautiful . Mary Blair really captured the essence of each account with her construct prowess , which is something I always attempt to do with my preferences and character . I want to find the heartbeat of these stories and bring in them to life .
io9 : At what point during your career journeying did your art help oneself you come up your current vocation ? It ’s so darling in the Disney community and it ’s been a joy to see it , both online and in person at the Park gallery , on merch , and at the Main Street Electrical Parade . Can you talk about your steps toward those milestones and big takeaways ?

Taylor : I believe my nontextual matter calling and the support of the Disney biotic community go hand and hand . I would not be where I am today without their sustenance . I still get emotional thinking about my first signing event with the ship’s company . So many hoi polloi take clock time out of their daytime to spend time with me . Over the years , the great unwashed continue to digest my work and come out to signalise events — and it satisfy my heart with so much joyousness to chat with everyone . This level of support has direct to opportunities showcasing at Epcot International Festival of the Arts , D23 , creating nontextual matter for the Disney Wish , and working on the design for the Main Street Electrical Parade ’s 50th Anniversary Finale Unit — with the incomparable Scott Schaffer and Jordan Peterson ! All of the support from the Disney community has led me to these opportunities . And every time I create a new product or experience , it ’s my way of giving back the love I ’ve receive over the years !
io9 : In your Instagram mail , you ’re candid about how being a creative can be sate with tons of ups and downs , and how you contend through your artistic production process often with the help of some of our favored heroine . What were the challenge you ’re most proud of get over ? And what advice do you have for up and come artists ?
Taylor : I think it ’s so authoritative to share the highs and the low of being a creative . When you only see the highlights — the ambition feels unrealizable . When in actuality , your dreams are so much near than you cogitate ! I always require my art to serve as proof that your dreams can come rightful , too . I ’ve had to overwhelm a lot of obstacle in my career . There was a sentence when a valued vox populi told me I had zero gift . And those words resonated in my thinker for a long fourth dimension . I did n’t create for years . And spent so much time not experience my best life because someone tell me I could n’t . And then I saw the moving-picture show knot — and it change my whole perspective ! I found myself resonate with Rapunzel so much . She had a dream she could n’t chase . She spend her days ring by column wall . In that present moment , I realized I too had my own wall preventing me from going after my dreams — and it was time to take those wall down . So I worked hard , I develop my style , and I pursued my dream of make artwork for Disney !
I think I love creating pieces that focus around the Disney princesses and heroine so much because I bonk showcasing the caliber that make them firm and inspiring . We all vibrate with their story in so many elbow room . The best advice I can give up and come artist is to follow your heart , pursue your mania , chase your dreams , surround yourself with people who want the best for you , and to keep move onward ! Do n’t be unnerve by setbacks and failures . creative person give out all the time . We go through myriad revisions before we bring on the final artwork . If you keep learning and raise from every setback , you ’ll be unstoppable . And most significantly , find the pleasure in create ! When you take in what you ’re passionate about , people will respond to it . Pay tending to where your nous goes when it wanders and start from there !
