The Gifted ’s ability to shy aside from the melodrama and bombast of other live - action comical book adaptation in favour of a more grounded , realistic dystopia is a big part of what ’s made it so secure , if a number narratively sedate . In its mid - time of year finale , though , The Gifted in conclusion decided to up the ante with a major death — and the institution of three classical 10 - Men villains , too .
It ’s always felt as if The Gifted understood that it was in its good interest to keep its more denotative connections to the large world of the X - Men in its back pocket as the time of year ’s gone along . This week ’s episode , “ eXploited , ” paid off in an incredibly satisfying path by confirming the many wind and clew the show ’s been dropping about Esme , the Mutant Underground ’s house physician telepath .
Now that a good one-half of the show ’s heroes have managed to get themselves captured by Sentinel Services again , those on the exterior have to enter out yet another convoluted way to give up their friends from what ’s basically a mutant absorption summer camp . Polaris , ever the revolutionary distinctly inspire by her don Magneto , is entirely in favor of just storming Sentinel Services with the Mutant Underground ’s remaining heavy hitters and simply tearing the place aside with their impressive powers . Between her magnetics , Eclipse ’s solar powers , and Shatter ’s near indestructibility , they ’d have a solid probability at really gain it .
But of course , the Struckers — the show ’s most consistently uninstructed characters — respond by advocate for some sort of diplomatical approach they somehow cogitate is even a possibleness at this tip . regard an opportunity to drive further divisions from within to achieve her own goal , Esme apply her telepathy to eavesdrop on the Struckers and convince them that it ’d be a saucy melodic theme to go to Agent Turner ’s home and confront him cheek - to - face .

Unlike last week — where she seemingly did n’t see that the first rule of taking on an evil organisation is to , you cognize , defend back — Dreamer ’s on the justificative and withholding any information she has about the Mutant Underground from Turner . For his part , Turner ’s able to let go of whatever understanding he might have been begin to spring up for mutants by being meeting the woman responsible for making him re - experience the death of his girl .
Elsewhere in the Sentinel building , the Doctor Campbell ’s shut away in a tete - a - tete with the Strucker child , who refuse to demonstrate their Fenris powers for him . While I never personally care all that much for her , others did , and for her dying to come to abruptly without warning — it ’s going to alter things for the eternal sleep of the Mutant Underground .
Out of fearfulness of losing Blink , the Strucker kids in conclusion give in and show off their destructive After Effects powers , closely destroying their adamantium - lined enclosure in the process . proud of , Campbell gibe not to kill Blink , but the kids actualise that Dreamer effectively die for nothing and they had the opportunity to save her .

It ’s a terrible , horrifying reveal that gives off the distinct impression that Esme and her sister are far more threatening and dangerous than anyone had been lead to believe — and that maybe , just perhaps , the Sentinels were n’t completely wrong to be afraid of them .

The Struckers are their own bad enemies . They should n’t be have out of the house without right adult supervision .
No janky Danger Room this week , but the Strucker kids ’ biometric - measuring case were rather nifty . It seems rather funny that the Sentinels remember that a couple of adamantium spike would have been enough to contain a power like theirs , though .
Dreamer for certain was n’t my favorite character , but this was an excellent sendoff .
