We ’re still over a year away fromJames Gunn ’s Supermanarriving in theaters to usher in an newfangled earned run average for DC Studios , but the superhero macrocosm that will espouse is already taking cast . Supergirl may now have its manager in Craig Gillespie , whose filmography includesDisney villain prequel Cruella , sport mockumentary I , Tonya , and the 2011 Fright Night remake .
Deadlinebroke the news that Gillespie is in talks for the gig , noting “ the programme is for DC to hit the movie for Q4 after they ’ve fill out James Gunn ’s Superman which is shooting in Georgia for a July 11 , 2025 theatrical release . ” Though it ’s not confirmed that the character of Supergirl — play by Milly Alcock , the House of the Dragon star who won the roleafter a competitive casting hunt — will appear in Superman , the trade reminds us that “ she ’ll appear in another DC projection before making her big screen debut as the Angel of the Sky . ”
Gunn and his co - DC Studios leader Peter Safran are both on board as Supergirl producers . The movie hasa script by Ana Nogueira — who was justhired to write DC ’s live - action Teen Titans movie — and is inspiredby Tom King and Bilquis Evely ’s Supergirl : Woman of Tomorrow comic serial publication . So far , there ’s no word on when Supergirl might begin filming , or a windowpane for when it might dispatch theater .
