I ’ve been happen on the streets by multitude who were texting while walk . A thousand time . It ’s annoying . I suppose I should be happy that the town of Fort Lee , New Jersey , have start issuing $ 85 tickets to any pedestrians charm texting and walk .
Except I ’m not . It ’s a unintelligent legal philosophy .
The fact is that I ’ve also been bumped by pedestrians walking their dog , buff getting all over each other , masses window shopping , fast Walker looking to the other side of the street , smokers looking for a cigarette , kid running around aimlessly , homo in a haste looking at their watches , women look in their bags , girls shop their iPods for a new album to play , boys playing Gameboy , and a hundred other combinations . beguilement and collision take place all the time for a million reason .
Should the constabulary proscription and okay every single distracting activity that could head to an accident on the sidewalk ? If you agree with Fort Lee township officials and Stony Brook University ’s Eric Lamberg — cobalt - generator of a study on the effects of texting on walking — the only logical answer is yes . Lamberg found that texting cut off your ability to walk much more than does lecture ( science ! ) , spend a penny the great unwashed 60 percent “ more likely to sheer off billet . ”
But so would any of the activity described above — things that people do every day on the pavement of every metropolis .
And do n’t think it ’s a police just for show . Fort Lee is being serious about this : 117 tickets and count .
