Recently I was sit around thinking about Star Wars : The Last Jedi , as I lean to do , and had a profound fruition . I realized that even though I think I know a mickle about the movie , I really do n’t recognize anything at all . And that realization made me incredibly happy .
It ’s perfect , really . A belief of contentment layered over near - infinite closed book . However , there are a bevy of new Star Wars toys hit storage this weekend and a new trailer likely coming in the next several workweek . If this is a perfect plateau of information , it ’s not going to last , which I ’m ok with too . Of course I want to know more . Anything . Everything . But correctly now , at this moment , Disney and Lucasfilm have fed me a perfectly healthy amount of data . Anything beyond this is just ice on the cake .
So what do we know ? Well , lots of generalities , but virtually no specific . So , for example , we know Luke and Rey start the motion picture on Ahch - To and that they ’re train . We assume they allow that satellite , but we have n’t seen any of that . We get it on that General Leia play a major role , part of which is with Poe Dameron — but what ’s plump on with the Resistance and First Order ? No clue .
Leaked photo of Supreme Leader Snoke let on that we ’ll see him in the flesh this time around , and we put on that ’ll have something to do with Kylo Ren , but how they ’ll go after the dying of Han Solo and demolition of Starkiller Base is anyone ’s guess . In fact , the most specific firearm of concrete information we have about the movie is that Finn and Rose go off on an adventure to find Benicio Del Toro ’s character DJ , and at some item they have to dress up as First Order police officer . That ’s as major a raider for the motion picture as we have , and even it was officially released in the behind - the - view footage shown at theD23 Expo .
We know more about ships and lineament than the pic itself . There ’s thegorilla - corresponding AT - M6 , the pizza pie - shaped Dreadnaught ship , Kylo Ren’sTIE Silencer , the Resistance Bombers , and more . placement - wise , we know the flick makes its room to Canto Bight , a gambling casino major planet , as well as Crait , where some variety of major battle will take place . Obviously , those wo n’t be the only locations or ship .
And yet , none of this really reveal anything about the movie . They ’re just thoroughgoing fiddling nugget of data that exercise to actuate our imaging instead of telling us something that specifically happens in the motion picture . It ’s like bear a few pieces to a mystifier , but no musical theme how to put them together because we do n’t know what the final image is pass to be .
That ’s kind of awing , and if today was December 14 , we could all go into the theater with a minimum amount of spoilers . Unfortunately , though , that is not world . Disney has a movie to betray and fans have insatiable appetites . We ’ll lief and ravenously learn more over the next four months from the toys ( many of which will be revealed this Friday ) , trailers , interviews , and TV muscae volitantes . But we can still revel in this moment . This was the minute where we had a perfect balance of information and prediction . I ’m excite for more , and I ’ll go crazy for it when I get it . But I ’m also attractively satisfied decently now .
