Alien abduction is n’t always a villainous affair . Sometimes aliens kidnap humans not to experiment on them or keep them in zoos but completely by accident , make humans mere collateral plunder of alien thieves . That is how ruby-red , the orphaned human protagonist of Eddie Pittman ’s webcomicRed ’s Planetbegins her journey into outer space . But that escapade occupy a stranger , and more life-threatening , turn when her inadvertent captors barge in land on a desert satellite , result Red and dozens of other survivor struggling to subsist .
At the beginning of Red ’s Planet , Red ’s biggest job is that she wants to run away . She ’s developed a habit of slipping out of foster place , where no one even rag to call her by her name . ( Hint : It ’s not “ Red . ” ) After flow off one too many sentence , Red is about to land herself in a chemical group installation , but those plans are cut off when a UFO snaps up the police cruiser Red is sitting in — and Red along with it .
all of a sudden , the girl without a destination has one , albeit an accidental one . Before anyone understand Red is privileged , the cruiser and several other pilfered Terran goodness are transported to a spaceship , where they are present for sale to the Aquilari , a two - head polo-neck beast know for their distinguish taste sensation and deep sack . Sellers of rare foods , endangered monsters , and strange artifacts have pull together in hopes of attracting the Aquilari ’s notice and stock .
However , before the Aquilari can try out all the bounty before them , the ship come under attack by outlander claiming the collection harbour and important hoarded wealth — something , it seems , touch on to a mysterious beam egg . The Aquilari make their relief valve , but the bulk of the rider make an pinch landing with the battered ship , finding themselves on a desert major planet .
Like the marooned traveler of Lost , these aliens come from a variety of backgrounds ; most are crushed on survival skills and a tad fishy of one another . Red , finally liberate from the police cruiser , finds herself coming to the defense of Tawee , a fuzzy former farm worker who has found himself caretaker of that foreign egg .
Pittman ’s scope is in animation , and Red ’s Planet utilise that experience with stiff eccentric designs , a grand sense of apparent motion , and superb food colouring . And so far , it has all the trademark ’s of a gently risible all - age dangerous undertaking comedian . Surely there will be some intergalactic government lurking in the desktop of Red ’s Planet , but Pittman has fix up a perfectly robust scenario for his pursuit to learn about — and perhaps protect — the egg : personality conflicts between diverse aliens freshly thrust from their comfort zones . And perhaps in the midst of it all , Red will learn that a home plate is n’t a lieu you run off to , but a seat you find among the people you ’re with .
